A shop owner and his business partner smiling at a laptop showing rising bar charts, in a small bright back office

“Did we make money this month?” Many managers only get the answer months later, when the annual accounts come back. The Almawarid Profitability module gives it right away, from what you already enter: your invoices, till tickets, stock outflows, payslips and cash expenses.

Rising sales do not tell you whether you earn money

Sales are easy to see: the till rings, invoices go out. What you do not see is what each sale cost you. The purchase price has moved, a discount was granted, payroll took on a new hire, rent and diesel come out of the cash box. A busy month can very well be a loss-making one.

To know, you have to wait for the accountant, who works on the year just ended, or build a spreadsheet yourself that you never have time to keep up. As a result, pricing, hiring and purchasing decisions are made by instinct, and you find out too late that a product or a season was earning nothing.

Your margin and result, calculated from your own data

The Profitability screen adds up, month by month, the sales before tax of your issued invoices and your till tickets. Against them it sets the cost of the goods actually taken out of stock, valued at weighted average cost: your purchases feed the stock and are therefore not counted twice. The difference is your gross margin, as an amount and as a percentage of sales.

It then deducts payroll, meaning the gross pay on the month's payslips, and the expenses paid out of your cash boxes and bank accounts, to give an approximate result. It is a management tool, not tax accounting: it tells you whether the month is good, and your accountant keeps control of the official accounts.

How to read your month, in four screens

  1. Profitability: the last six months by default; one click for twelve months, this year or last year, or a free period down to the day.
  2. Gross margin & result: the charts compare sales month by month with goods, salaries and expenses, and follow the curve of margin and result; the table details each month, including the till's share and, for information, purchases received.
  3. Dashboard: the Management centre gathers on one page the indicators of your modules (sales, stock and purchasing, payroll, attendance, rental) for this month, last month, the quarter or the year, with alerts highlighted.
  4. Margin per job: from the Profitability screen, a link opens the cost price of each site, batch or file tracked as a job.

What you gain

  • The answer before the closing. You know whether the month is good while there is still time to act.
  • No extra data entry. Everything comes from the invoices, till, stock, payroll and treasury you already keep.
  • A margin on the real cost. The cost of goods is that of stock outflows at weighted average cost, not an estimated percentage.
  • Simple comparisons. Six months, twelve months, this year against last year, or the season that matters to you.
  • A method on display. The calculation rule is written under the table: you know what each figure contains.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the accounting profit?

No. It is an approximate management result: gross margin minus gross payroll and cash expenses. It leaves out depreciation and taxes in particular; the official result remains your accountant's job.

What if I do not use payroll or the treasury?

The calculation takes what exists: without payslips in Almawarid, payroll counts as zero and the result is overstated by that much. The more complete your data, the more accurate the figure.

Why are my purchases not deducted?

Because they go into stock: their cost is counted when the goods go out, at weighted average cost. Purchases received stay on display for information, in a separate column.

Can I look at a precise period?

Yes, from any day to any day: partial months are trimmed to the exact dates, and the salaries of an incomplete month are prorated by days.

Who can see these figures?

The Profitability page follows the ERP access rights, and the Management dashboard is reserved for the owner and the people you give that right to.
